June 2000:
The Center for Eating Disorders & Psychotherapy was founded by Laura Hill, PhD

2001:
February

Opened with Outpatient Services
Formulated three-part specialized eating disorder mission:

  • Treatment
  • Education
  • Research

Summer:
Opened Intensive Outpatient Program for eating disorders

2006:
Changed dba name from The Center for Eating Disorders & Psychotherapy to The Center for Balanced Living

2007, December:
Opened M's Place Partial Hospital Program and step down program M’s Aftercare Program

2010:
Developed an eating disorder electronic medical record via Penelope

2011:
Received first CARF accreditation for 3 years

  • It is rare to receive 3 year accreditation on the first survey
  • The report noted 19 strengths and 3 exemplary conformance to standards

2013:
Determined it was the right time to move from leasing to purchasing our own building with increased space for future growth
Launched first ever capital campaign

2014:
Spring
Purchased building at 8001 Ravines Edge, tripling space for future growth

Summer
Completed renovations on building

Fall
Moved into building at new location
Opened Dialectic Behavioral Treatment Intensive Outpatient Program (DBT-IOP)

2015:
Winter (February)
Opened 5-Day Treatment for Eating Disorders, aka NEW FED TR, following initial trials at University of California San Diego

2016:

Winter
Opened Alcohol and Other Drug Intensive Outpatient Program (AOD-IOP)

2017:

Winter
Grown to
42 full and part time employees
Projected billing to be $4.4 million by fiscal year end
